Since the launch of National Tree Week 40 years ago around one million trees have been planted every year, initially in response to the loss of 20 million trees through Dutch Elm Disease.
This year we have worked with 2 local schools, Langrish Primary and Liss Infants, to make our contribution to this year’s one million trees.
Cherry trees, kindly donated by Hilliers Nursery, were planted at both schools and children from their Eco clubs helped with the planting and learned about the importance of trees and the benefits they give.
In recognition of World Soil Day this Friday, the children also brought in soil from their own gardens to compare different colours and textures and talk about the functions of soil. At Langrish the children’s soil was used in planting the tree.
